Frederick William Watts

(1800-1870)

Littles is known of this artist's career except for his incessant work in almost every county of England. He is known to have resided
in Hampstead Heath and Camden Town, London and exhibited some 76  works at the Royal Academy,108 works at the British Institute
and 65 at the Royal Society of British Artists.

Although habitually accused of imitating John Constable,Watts possessed a style of his own and
became a fine artist in his own right. He painted inland scenery of England, meadows, gently flowing rivers, mills and farmsteads in a crisp and colourful manner. His works may be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Birkenhead.
