Jan Jacob Spohler (1811-1879)

Born in Nederhorst, he studied under the master V.W Pieneman in Amsterdam.An outstanding artist he is remembered for his romantic
winter scenes painted with close attention to detail.He spent 1840-1843 working in Haarlem followed by 3 years in Brussels,
the remainder of his career being spent between Amsterdam,The Hague and Leiden.

Since his death his work has been sought by collectors.His works continue to rank among the foremost of the Dutch
painters of the period.
