David Smith (1949 - )

David Smith was born in Essex in 1949.  He left school at the age of 15 and spent the next few years in various occupations until training to be a constructional craftsman.

His grandfather, himself a keen artist, encouraged him to paint from an early age and it remained a hobby until early in 1978 when he decided to paint full time professionally.

He enjoys wandering around the countryside and on a fine day can be found in the highways and byways of East Anglia armed with a sketchbook and pencil to observe and record nature as it really is.

David Smith’s paintings follow the tradition of the finest of the East Anglian artists, making full use of the beauty of that part of the countryside which has inspired so many artists before him.
