Emilio Sanchez Perrier (1855 – 1907)

Emilio Sánchez Perrier was born in 1855 in Spain.

He was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Seville and later at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1871 he resided in Granada with Martin Rico, where he became friends with Mariano Fortuny. He travelled to Paris in 1879 and studied at the studios of Auguste Bolard, Leone Gerome and Felix Ziem.

He exhibited in various group exhibitions, in 1878 at the exhibition of natural arts society of Madrid. In 1879 at the Cadiz regional exhibition, where he was awarded a gold medal, and from 1880 at the Salon des Artistes Francais, receiving a commendation in 1886 and a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889.He then became a member of the Seville Fine Art Academy.

Sanchez Perrier painted landscapes, architectures, genre and water scenes, and was renowned for his scenic illustrations of Venice, which feature intimate view’s as well as large vistas of this iconic European City.  Sanchez-Perrier’s romantic atmospheric style of painting remains very popular and his works can be found in important private and museum collections throughout America and Europe. 

Sanchez-Perrier died in 1907
