Sidney Richard Percy (1821-1886)

 


Born in London, the fifth son of Edward Williams landscape painter (1782-1855)His early works were signed "Sidney Williams"
but aged 20 he adopted the use of "Percy" .His great love was Welsh scenery ,in particular the villages of Llanbedr and Arthog which
are situated on either side of the Mawddach estuary.

In 1863 the Percy family moved to Buckinghamshire where their house overlooked the Misbourne valley and beech woods beyond.
However on the death of the two elder children they moved to Redhill then to Sutton in Surrey.In 1886 Sidney fell fromhis horse and a
knee injury became infected.After a long period of illness the leg was amputated but shortly afterwards he died of heart failure.
