David Hay

( )

David graduated from The School of Drawing and Painting, Edinburgh College of Art, in 1970.

His tutors included William Gillies,Robin Philipson,John Houston and Elizabeth Blackadder.

He was a teacher of art and design from 1971 and principal teacher at Kelso High School from 1978 until retirement in 2008.
He lives and paints in the Scottish Borders and draws inspiration from the local landscape. Sources are environmental, natural or built and often
beautiful but sometimes disturbing and threatening. He is greatly interested in the effect of changing light on the atmosphere and mood of his subjects.

He uses water based underpainting and then reworks the paint many times with glazes of colour until the image finally becomes established.
