Jean Grimal

(1942 – 1997)

Jean Grimal was born in Tulle in 1942 and died in 1997. He received a classical education and showed an outstanding talent for drawing and painting at an early age.  He was a prize winner at the annual competitions between Lycees for drawing. Following on his early successes, he became a Professor of drawing and design.

His still life works are particularly impressive, one can almost touch the shining fruit, feel the coolness of the porcelain. The dark background of his paintings bring forward the subjects to an almost trompe l'oeil effect and Grimal's paintings have become sought after by galleries and collectors around the world.

He was not a prolific artist and took great pains to choose his subjects with special care.  The execution of his meticulous works showed, even to the most untrained eye, the unbounded talents of a fine master.
