J.B Duntze

(1823-1895)

Born near Bremen he studied in Munich and also under the celebrated sculptor and architectural artist Karl Krauze in Berlin.
From 1851-1855 he was with Swiss artist Alexander Calame who was noted for his portrayals of landscapes and of snow scenes of the Alps.
Calame had a considerable influence on

Duntze's later work encouraging him to travel thus broadening his studies and gaining material for his striking winter subjects.
Duntze held several exhibitions in Switzerland and Germany and later in England. He finally settled in Dusseldorf.
