Cornelis Christiaan Dommersen

(1842 – 1928)

C.C. Dommersen, a marine, architectural and landscape artist of German Parentage, was born in Utrecht, Holland on 11th November 1842.

He is known to have travelled extensively, working in the Hague in 1890 and also painting in Belgium, England and France.  He also travelled to the United States of America and worked there for a considerable time, which was unusual for an artist of that period.

Dommersen is particularly noted for his very finely detailed townscapes, conveying peaceful everyday scenes which reflect and idealised view of life around him at the time.  His works are on view in the museums of Middlebourg, the Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht.

He died in the Hague on 23rd May 1928.
