John Steven Dews

(1949- )

Born in Beverley,East Yorkshire his early schooling was in Hull where he attended the Hull Regional College of Art.
During his technical studies he paid great attention to cutaway drawings of ships and marine engines whilst learning the art of book
illustration.
In his painting he came to terms with both the aesthetically pleasing and technically correct approach.The port of Hull ha contributed some of
the finest marine paintings in the world to both museums and private collections. Dews is undoubtedly is the finest exponent of this type of marine oil painting that Hull has produced in the 20th century.
