W.A van Deventer

(1824-1893)

Born in The Hague , he studied at the Hague Academy between 1843 and 1846 where he was one of the principal pupils under
Hendrick van de Sande Bakhuyzen.W.A Deventer is known for his river landscapes, canal scenes and shipping subjects.

The Deventer family was a very illustrious and well known family of painters in Holland.W.A Deventer worked in both oil and watercolour
and his work is represented in numerous museums in Holland. In 1844 he visited Gibralter and there are 20 of his works held there.
