George Vicat Cole

(1833-1893)

Born in Portsmouth in the year of the death of his father, a leading painter in his day of portraits , landscapes and animals.
Vicat Cole was admitted at the early age of 18 to the British Institute and then to the Society of British Artists and finally in 1853 exhibited
at the Royal Academy. He died at the early age of 60 having exhibited 76 paintings in the Royal Academy alone. His studio sale was held at
Christie's on 16th June 1893.
