Jean Batut

(1904 - )

Jean Batut was born in Paris in 1904.  He married and had four children.

In 1971 he became an apprentice in a wrought iron foundry where he learnt chasing, embossing and many other facets of metalwork.  He went on to learn all aspects of matallurgy and industrial iron-founding, and having passed his examinations, was employed by the City of Paris.  His professional life as master-craftsman and foreman lasted until 1965.  During his period he also became proficient at drawing, in the use of pastels, watercolours, gouache and oils, and became a member of the Society of Independent Painters (Salon des Independants).  After he retired he devoted all his time to painting.
